Trade Finance TV: Supporting frontier economies

Previously on Trade Finance TV, we looked at how frontier economy defaults make it tough for those countries to get back on their feet. Today, Robert Besseling of Pangea-Risk returns with Shona Tatchell of the EBRD and Deutsche Bank’s Anand Jha. We’re going to hear more about how development banks and commercial banks work together to get trade flowing.

“Trade finance facilities have constantly been respected,” says Robert Besseling, and Anand Jha explains the steps leading up to an economy’s recovery to the point where and IMF bail-out will happen in conjunction with development finance institutions working with commercial banks. Shona Tatchell reminds viewers how Greece went from being fully developed and mature to being part of the EBRD’s Trade Finance Facilitation Programme. “That is the function of development banks, the smoothing out of pricing and the reestablishment of trust,” she reflects.
