As developing economies seek to improve overall infrastructure and drive prosperity in their countries, export credit agencies are working with global banks to help them do this. Following the appearance of former UK Export Finance (UKEF) Chief Executive Louis Taylor CBE in 2019 regarding Ghana’s Kumasi Market, Trade Finance TV hears more from UKEF’s Steven Gray about the ECA’s work in West Africa. “It is important to remember that with ECAs we are countercyclical. We have been building opportunities in the region and the environment is right for ECAs to support banks looking to finance buyers operating in West Africa,” he says.
One of those banks is Deutsche Bank. “We take a long-term view – to partner for the right projects,” adds Sapna Sapra. She adds that it is very special seeing the positive impact of projects such as new roads, bridges, and potable water infrastructure. “It’s a joint effort to make sure these projects come to life and the partnership has been fantastic,” she says.
